Aeros Announces Phase I SBIR Project Award
Near Space (High Altitude Air) Platform Global Rapid
Redeployable Stratospheric Airship (G2R)
Los
Angeles, Calif. – July 24, 2006

The United
States Air Force today announced that Aeros Aeronautical Systems Corp has
won an SBIR project award for persistent high altitude platforms.
The program's
key technology areas include propulsion, structures, and aerodynamics
technologies that will enable high altitude air platform concepts to
achieve an extremely long time on station.
The Small
Business Innovative Research Program (SBIR) is a highly competitive
program that encourages small businesses to explore their technological
potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization.
By including qualified small businesses in the nation's R&D arena,
high-tech innovation is stimulated and the United States gains
entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development
needs.
Igor
Pasternak, Aeros president and CEO stated that, “The Aeros winning
proposal shows a development roadmap that will identify essential
technologies for Near Space Platforms. The proposed technology roadmap
identifies the advantages of the design and presents evidence for the
alleviation of present limitations of near space platforms including;
hangar requirements, ground handling, ascent
and descent, and transit times to station. With the development of the
proposed technology, the near space platform will be capable of global
deployment with short turn around times to re-launch.”
Fred
Edworthy will assume program management responsibility for the program.
Fred commented; “We have thought about alternative near space concepts,
and how we deploy such a large vehicle from any global location. This
program will give us the opportunity to develop the concept further and
phase II will allow us to demonstrate it. It is an
exciting prospect for our company.”
